Ascendance Pole Jam Is Just the Beginning of Flow in Color

On June 7th, we hosted our very first Flow in Color Pole Jam — and let us tell you, it was magic.
From the moment folks walked through the door, there was an undeniable energy in the room. This wasn’t just a jam. It was a reclamation. A celebration. A reminder that when you build something for community with community, the floor doesn’t just hold movement — it holds memory, healing, and possibility.
What We Built Together
At our jam, dancers of all levels, bodies, and backgrounds came together to move without judgment, without hierarchy, and without the pressure of perfection. We created space to explore the sensual, the soft, the strong — on our own terms.
Warm-ups, open floor time, skill sharing, and community prompts. Some folks danced freely. Others journaled, stretched, or simply observed — and all of it was welcome. Our intention wasn’t to teach people how to move “better,” but to help them remember they already can. That their body, in its current form, is already worthy of joy, creativity, and attention.
This Is About More Than Dance
What makes Flow in Color different is that we’re not just here for the pole — we’re here for the people.
Our jams are a space where BIPOC movers, LGBTQIA+ folks, sex workers, veterans, parents, and justice-involved community members can gather and exist without explanation. Our mission is rooted in body autonomy, artistic freedom, and economic opportunity — and that starts with showing up, turning the music on, and letting people take up space.
We believe in embodied education — the kind that doesn’t just live in your head, but in your skin, your breath, your hips. And we believe every person deserves access to that.
What’s Next?
Our first jam proved what we already knew: when you give people a space that’s truly built for them, they show up as themselves. No code-switching. No performance for the outside gaze. Just truth, movement, and joy.
And this is only the beginning.
We’ve got more jams and community offerings on the way, including stops at Elevar, Studio K, Raven Studios, and Lilith Pole — each with its own unique energy and local flavor. There’ll be more opportunities to move, connect, learn, and laugh. And for those of you who want to go even deeper, our upcoming quarterly events and scholarship programs will offer more tools to support your growth as artists, leaders, and community members.
So stay tuned, stay grounded, and stay moving.
With love,
The Flow in Color Team 🖤
